NEPAL MINISTRY: POKHARA, NEPAL
CHANGES IN OUR MINISTRY DUE TO THE EARTHQUAKE, APR 25
April 29, 2015
Dear Friends in Christ.
There’s much to report about our lives and ministry in SE Asia, but the important news is concerning a the trip I’ve been preparing and planning to make a trip to Pokhara, Nepal on Wed of this week: (Apr 29). The recent tragic news of the devastating earthquake in Nepal has affected these plans. Please pray for Nepal and the great loss of life and destruction.
Initially, my big concern was for our friend and co-worker, Pastor Nade Lama in Pokhara. I was able to make contact with him, and he and his family are safe. Pokhara (his city) has sustained some significant damage, but the infrastructure is still functioning to some degree. But please pray for Pastor Nade’s parents who live in a rural Nepali village in which all of the mud homes were reduced to rubble. His parents are struggling to manage, and Nade’s brothers are with his parents trying to sustain themselves. The whole region is in need of vast amounts of international aid. Food and water are greatly lacking. One of Nade’s nephews died from a head injury sustained in the quake and was buried yesterday (Apr 28). There are many deaths in his parents’ village with over 200 people missing. The grief that the Nepali people are experiencing is not easy to grasp.
I leave for Kathmandu and Pokhara Nepal tonight Wed. 4/29. I had to make so many changes in my travel arrangements, including booking different hotels, because the Guest House I was originally scheduled to stay at in Kathmandu was either badly damaged or completely destroyed in the earthquake.
Air travel will take me from Penang, Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Kathmandu, Nepal with a one night layover in Kathmandu, and then on to Pokhara on a domestic propeller plane on Thursday. We are bringing into Nepal several pieces of equipment to leave in Nepal for ministry.
We were humbled when our church (FGA Centre, Penang), prayed for me yesterday, and gave a significant sum to IMP to help with the needs and relief of the suffering. God bless their sharing. Please pray that we will be directed with wisdom in helping with needs.
WE ARE THEREFORE EARNESTLY REQUESTING PRAYER
We ask for your prayers for the entirety of this trip, and for unplanned ministry of love and care that the Lord will place before us in this time of great need in the nation.
There have been so many changes to the trip, and some details are still uncertain.
We’re encouraging friends to give to the needs of the Nepali people through “World Vision,” which distributes aid to the needy quickly.
